1. Be respectful.
I think that this covers a huge ground in classroom discipline. The definition of respect in my classroom will be explicitly discussed and agreed to by the teacher and the students. It encompasses respect for each other and respect for self.
Consequence: 2 warnings (one on one with the student)and a detention or depending on what the circumstances were it might be worse.
2. Be a problem solver.
I think it is important to teach students independence and the skill of problem solving. In the real world, they might not have the support and safety net that the classroom provides for them and they need to be able to find solutions for their problems.
Consequence: Reminder of why it is important to be a problem solver and actually providing students the wait time to find a solution for their problems.
3. Be a team player.
As it is important to be independent, it is also important for students to be able to work with others. It is important to learn cooperative and collaborative work in order to succeed academically and professionally.
Consequence: 2 warnings (one on one with the student)and a detention or depending on what the circumstances were it might be worse.
4. Be honest.
Students also need to learn honesty. This includes taking responsibility for their actions. I will emphasize that the classroom does not need excuses, but needs honesty and truth.
Consequence: 2 warnings (one on one with the student)and a detention or depending on what the circumstances were it might be worse.
5. Be open-minded.
Since I have respect as one of my discipline strategy, having an open mind goes hand in hand with that. The students will be able to share and listen their thoughts and ideas without feeling uncomfortable and unsafe in the classroom. There will be no negative judgments welcome in the classroom.
Consequence: 2 warnings (one on one with the student)and a detention or depending on what the circumstances were it might be worse.
